Recovery isn't just about lying on the couch. It's about intentional movement that facilitates repair — and why sitting still isn't always the answer.
We have all been there: waking up the day after a grueling leg day unable to walk down the stairs without wincing. The instinct is to do absolutely nothing. But total stillness tends to prolong the soreness rather than shorten it.
What Is Active Rest?
Active rest means low-intensity movement performed after a strenuous session. Think of it as keeping the engine at idle rather than switching it off. The aim is to raise blood flow to the tissue without adding fatigue on top of it.
Increased circulation carries oxygen-rich blood into the muscle while flushing metabolic waste out of it. That speeds repair and takes the edge off delayed onset muscle soreness — the stiffness that peaks two days after a hard session.

How to Incorporate It
- Mobility flow: twenty minutes of dynamic stretching or a slow-paced yoga sequence.
- Walking: a brisk thirty-minute walk, ideally outdoors.
- Breathwork: using the breath to down-regulate the nervous system.
At Drivox, our Recovery & Breath classes are built for exactly this. Foam rolling, dynamic stretching and guided breathing, combined to reset your system so you can go harder in the next session.
